Untuk sementara Rossi lebih dominan dengan berhasil menang di enam balapan yakni di Jerez, Catalunya, Assen, Sachsenring, Brno dan Misano. Sementara Lorenzo dapat jatah empat kemenangan yang dia dapat di Motegi, Le Mans, Indianapolis dan tentunya Estoril.

Kehebatan Yamaha tak sebatas 10 kemenangan yang berhasil dikumpulkan. Soalnya pada tiga balapan di mana mereka gagal duduk di podium teratas, kedua pembalapnya pasti ikut naik podium di posisi dua dan tiga. Tercatat cuma MotoGP Inggris di mana Yamaha sama sekali gagal menempatkan pembalap di atas podium.

Saat Casey Stoner menang di Qatar pada seri pembuka, Rossi dan Lorenzo berhasil duduk di posisi dua dan tiga. Sementara di Mugello, Lorenzo dan Rossi bertukar posisi menguntit Stoner yang jadi juara. Donnington Park menjadi catatan terburuk Yamaha musim ini lantaran di sana posisi finis terbaik mereka hanya di urutan lima atas nama Rossi. Dalam balapan tersebut Lorenzo tak dapat poin karena mengalami kecelakaan di tengah lomba.

Torehan fantastis Yamaha pada balapan tersebut sesungguhnya merupakan hasil dari performa apiknya di sesi kualifikasi. Keberhasilan Lorenzo dapan pole di Estoril bahkan mematahkan rekor Yahama dalam hal jumlah pole terbanyak dalam semusim.

Tahun ini sudah 11 kali Rossi dan Lorenzo bergantian menempati posisi start terdepan. Sepanjang keikutsertaan di ajang grand prix balap motor, pole terbanyak Yamaha dalam semusim adalah 10 yang mereka dapat di musim 1978 dan 1988.

Juga menjadi raihan hebat Yamaha musim ini adalah keberhasilan finis di posisi satu-dua. Dari 10 balapan yang berhasil dimenangi, lima di antaranya didapat Yamaha dengan menempatkan dua pembalap sekaligus di urutan teratas. Saat ditanya kansnya menjadi juara dunia sebelum seri pamungkas di Valencia, Rossi tak mau sembarangan berprediksi. Menyadari dapat persaingan ekstra sengit dari Lorenzo, dia malah menduga kalau Valencia akan menjadi balapan untuk menentukan siapa juara dunia tahun 2009.
